3.0 Throttle cable adjustment
« on: 22 January 2011, 10:23:55 »

Ok, further to my earlier post about a suspect kickdown switch, its now obvious that there is too much slack in the cable.

I've had a good look and can't see any obvious way of adjusting the slack out. I can see a molded thread on the black plastic sheath that is over the steel cable and inside the rubber outer, but no way of adjusting it.

I suspect its in Haynes somewhere, but I loaned my copy to a mate and haven't got it back.

So, if someone could explain how to make the adjustment I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks - Rob

Iirc there is a fair bit of slack as standard, and no adjustment. Hence people try and bodge the butterflies open to get the car to tick over not realising the icv is the culprit.

But it's been a while since I played with a throttle cable tbh.

if the car is idling badly then its often the AICV but there should be no slack on the accelerator pedal...this is generally down to badly adjusted accelerator cable or the little butterfly clip holding it in place having fallen off...but it just needs adjusting so that the pedal is tight, not to the point that you are affecting the idle speed

Seems at variance with what TB says:

"Its reliable, usual reason for kickdown issues is the throttle cable is too loose - use the adjuster at the throttle body"

Thanks Chris, that's much appreciated - but that's a 50+ return trip that I'd try and avoid if poss  ::)

Idle is fine, just quite a bit of slack to take in.

Were only about 17 miles away from you mate lol But I will see if I can get a pic sorted for you later if your still struggling...its really just a matter of moving the throttle cable till there is no slack on the pedal then using the butterfly clip thing to hold it there...job done, 30 seconds or so :y
