My 2.6 Elite auto always showed 9999.9 mpg on overrun and down hills until recently. Now on overrun it slowly works its way up to about 60 or 70. So it looks to me like the engine's being fuelled during overrun.

Anyone know what I should look for or clean? Is it a breather thing? Or a sensor?

Overall consumption seems a little poorer than before as well, struggling to get to 20 now around town (24+ before).

Any ideas appreciated.

Have you switched it to average instead of instantaneous consumption?

The display goes to 999.9 when overrun fuel cut is active. The ECU will have a set of criteria for this to be the case, probably based on engine temperature, load, RPM, etc. It's something that's programmed into the ECU so hard to see how it could be affected by a fault - unless the engine is not warming up fully.

Are you sure you had it under the same conditions? Can you provoke it to go to 999.9 by coasting down a hill in a lowish gear (> 1500 RPM or so)?

Any fault codes stored in the engine ECU?

Definitely instantaneous Kevin. I have a 2013 with colour display so i can see all the figures at the same time. Just been out again and it's not behaving the same as it used to.
Doesn't seem like as much engine braking either - granted, it's auto but not the same amount as I'm used to.

Is it idling properly? Only ask because I need to clean my ICV (another job added to the Hants meet list ) and when the idle is high I have the same thing

Idle is fine and smooth, and no pedal trick codes stored.

Will have to play some more in the daylight.

Hmm. Could be throttle pedal not quite returning to the idle position, or a sticky throttle body / air leak, I suppose. :-/
