car overheating

just got my car back on road friday and its rocking when ticking over and the revs are jumping,its like a bag of nails its ok when your driving along temp is fine but when i stop in traffic or somthing the temp shouts into red and overheats i no the hbv is leaking coolant and the vac pipes need doing is this the problem?or something else

'rocking when ticking over'? sounds like a misfire on one or more plugs. Check for water or oil in the plug wells & also for correct plug torque. Look at the plug caps & check the rubber is sound with no splits/cracks or bits missing as this can cause spark tracking & misfire. Have a read of the ECU to check for stored codes:-

If you have vacuum leaks then there is a better than even chance this is the cause of the uneven revs, & the leaking HBV needs seeing to asap if you are losing a regular & noticeable amount of coolant! Keep an eye on the level & don't allow it to fall too low or you will get air locks in the system & overheating. :y

Are the twin fans coming on when the temperature rises as you are stopped with no natural air flow? :-/ :-/
