Sealant for Diff Cover
« on: 15 February 2011, 16:59:11 »

In the maintenance guide covering the change of diff oil, the writer suggests using Loctite 598.  I've been looking for this product online, and have been struggling to find it.
I've found a product called Loctite 5910, which seems to be a very similar spec, except it has lower working temperature range (250 degrees instead of 625 degrees).

Has anyone used this product successfully, or can recommend another suitable product?

I think I'd use Vauxhall's grey sealant, it's used for engine sumps so I'd have thought it'd be suitable for a diff.

Now then, memory time, seem to remember 598 being super seeded by another 4 digit number stocked by Halfords.....?

Guessing loc tite web site should give the new product....?

My memory is appalling though, so might be talking 'dangle berries'?  :-[

Same as, goto Vauxhall and get their diff cover sealant.

I got some the other week after i changed my diff oil, never used it in the end tho as i used a suction pump to get the old oil out - Much less messy!  :y
