hi paul
pull some plug leads off and check for oil in the wells if oil is present then im afraid it is your cam cover gaskets again  :(
i know you say gm gaskets where used but was the breather system cleaned out at the same time as it is this being gunked up that causes the gaskets to go  :y

Have a good look to see where the oil is coming from.... like mentioned have a look and see if the cam cover gaskets are leaking, you may even see oil leaking onto your exhaust manifold heat sheilds.
Another place could be the Crank Shaft Oil Seal but a little difficult to see that mate, but that is behind the very bottom centre pulley (Crank Pulley) :y

I have also seen oil leaks from where the Sump Casting joins the block..

Have a good look report back what you find :y

Now that you have a lack of finances, surely this is a good time to start tinkinring fixing your car yourself  ;). Or try Daz or Pete who do a proper job but charge somewhat less that garage rates.  :y

i would have a look for you paul but bedford is abit far away from york ?
from what you are describing the oil could be coming from anywhere, why not take it to a garage and see if they can source the leak but then ask them for a quote before they do anything to repair it ,  then refuse , at least then you will have an idea of what/where it is, ;) could be something simple like sump gasket, ;) or serious like crank oil seal  :(
