fitted new discs and pads up front had front wheels rebalenced  .at local speeds fine but have noticed vibration over 75 on the motorway, when i fitted new discs i noticed one had a machined slot though the cooling fins on edge  of discs is this how it was balenced or do you guys think ive a duff disc as ive never seen this before, the whole car had complete 4 wheel tracking done by previus owner after new rear shocks and springs 1 year ago , ?

Is the vibration on the steering wheel , if so its the fronts .
Front balance issues normally show between 45 - 60 mph .
If the vibration is through the car it could be the rear wheels out of balance .
I had a vibration through the seat if that makes sense and not the steering wheel which turned out to be one of the rear wheels out of balance .
My GM brake discs had a flat area on them as well although i dont know what its for .. maybe to balance the disc as you say

That's how the discs are balanced.

If standard cone balancer doesn't sort it also consider

Out of round tyre or wheel

Tyre damage/bulge.

Where the discs centred on the hub before doing up the Allen bolt?

Try a five stud balancer, they are more accurate and balance the wheel to the bolt holes rather than the centre hole which is nout go do with centring the wheel on the hub. Wheels in motion use nothing else. Finding one locally can be difficult though.

I think it reasonable to assume that the front wheels are OK, if as you say, they have been fully balanced. I suggest you look to the rear. If nothing immediately obvious, then it might be worth swapping each of the rear wheels in turn with the spare (assuming it's ok) just to eliminate them as possible culprits. Laborious I know, but will eliminate them and save you some money

thinking to deep ,was the rear tyres badly balenced have also swapped round with fronts as have more tread at back now smooth all the way to --0 mph
have federal 235/45rz17,s what would be better  toyo proxi ? eny thoughts as to next tyre purchase
