finally appreciate the driving capabilities of the
« on: 09 May 2011, 10:09:52 »

Had the mig for little more than two years now.
All the time I was not happy with the way it drives.
Always felt unsecure in the bends especially when it was wet.
I blamed the tires constantly since they need to be replaced (had shocks done, full geometric setup, but still it felt really hairy if going faster).
After being warned at MOT to suspension problems I went to the garage last Friday to have it done.
My acquaintance owns the garage so I left the car.
He rebushed all 4 bushes (aftermarket but dont know the brand) on the wishbones, changed one steering tie rod and had the full geometric setup to be done.
The price for all this was around 110 pounds.
It was done Friday afternoon and this weekend I went to some weeding in the neighbouring country.
And.....
BLOODY HELL it doesn't feel like my car anymore.
Stable, comfortable, really predictable to drive.
I've driven a lot of cars while working for a rent a car company as a student before even big saloons like mercs audis. And this feels just as good if not better.

If I had a chance I would have probably kissed my mechanic if I'd seen him this weekend  ;D ;D ;D

The only bad thing is that the consumption has risen for "no reason"  ;)

Bushes are key to omega handling IMO. Other factors as well obviously, but there's no point fitting expensive tyres and suspension if the bushes are buggered. And on cars this age they most likely will be.

Hence my alleged obsession with the bloody things over the last couple of years. And a niggling doubt that further Improvements may be available from rear trailing arm bushes....? We never see these mentioned on here, I have trouble assuming they are that bullet proof.

Now that it feels like the best thing on the road, maybe you're inclined to get the boot down a lot more than before (?) :y

There was mention of Pollyflex showing interest in producing a set for the car at one point. I reckon that would be worthwhile.... If possible.

got the printout before and after the full geometric setup, the suspension before was really all off.
Before where it was hairy at 70 km/h now I find myself driving 90 or a 100.
Event the rolling of the chassis stopped. I always thought that rolllin was related to droplinks but it seems also bushes can affect it
