Random engine cut out
« on: 10 May 2011, 22:30:21 »

Any thoughts on things to look at / check?

This has only happened a couple of times, basically the engine just cuts out.  Always at low speed, normally when braking for corner in the village or at a junction.

No warning lights, stick it in park and restart it without any problems, when running engine appears to run absolutely fine or at least I don't notice any problems.

Happened once a while ago and I forgot about it, just got the car back today after having the broken manifold studs removed and replaced.  Drove 3 miles home without a probelm, then went to pick up my son from school about 30 mins later and it cut out 3 times in the first mile of the drive through the village, after that ran perfectly fine.

Not sure if it maybe idling a bit slow, I gave it a quick look and seems to be around 600rpm idle (not sure what it should be).  Will check better tomorrow when I go to work.

Any thoughts?

Another job semi-jobbed.  Didn't get a chance to pickup an IACV gasket but thought I would have a look at the breather pipes etc anyway.

The small breather was quite clogged up and the large had a bit of gunk in aswell, so took them off and gave them a good clean out.  Also re-bodged (haha) the split in the rearsection of the air intake trunking (hence why I am after a replacement) with a whole load of black tape.  Far from ideal but should be good enough until I can sort it.

After doing all that, it seems to run a bit smoother at idle.  Sitting about about 500-600rpm (ish) when cold, after settling from the initial 900ish (I assume thats the auto-choke?).

Will give it a run out tomorrow when I go to work and will do the IACV and possibly the throttle body properly when I get the gaskets.
