Petrol smell
« on: 20 May 2011, 15:49:03 »

Hello again. I went to work today, 70 km of highway, around 160 km/h most of the time - no problem. Parked the car, took the bag out, closed the door and there was a strong petrol smell around the car. Looked under, nothing, no leak, went back few hours later, the smell was still there. Like it's coming somewhere under the car. There's no leaking and no petrol smell under the hood, byt you can smell it inside the car. I hope I just parked over someone else's petrol leak, but I've got a bad suspicion it's my miggy doung it. What could it be? It's 2.0 16v estate, thanks

I had this recently too - a very strong petrol smell with no sign of a leak, very strong when the car was turned off and also strong through the air vents.

I don't know if your engine is similar, but my problem was the depressurisation value on the fuel rail which was leaking. As the petrol was dripping down into the V of the engine there was never anything visible.

Thanks, but the smell disapeared last night and didn't appear again. Looks like I parked over something that was there before, that's my conclusion - or my hope...  This morning I was cleaning throtle valve body or at least I think this is the expression for it, finished just before rain started and my beauty drives like a new one again. Damn I really love Omega  :y ;D
