Valuation of facelift MV6 wheels
« on: 30 January 2008, 00:48:00 »

Hi guys

I am considering removing the facelift MV6 wheels from my Omega before selling it, as that way I can drop the price a bit without significantly losing out. I suspect most potential buyers couldn't care less that there are a nice shiny set of wheels that have only been on there about 4 months and owe me £300 + tyres  ::)

So basically the point is, will it be worth my while going to the hassle of sourcing some suitable replacements and selling these? I'm thinking of picking up a set of prefacelift Elite wheels or similar, as trying to find prefacelift MV6 ones that aren't buckled and/or corroded to bits is damn near impossible (the reason for removing them in the first place). I'd rather sell it with 16" wheels that are round and in good nick, than original 17s that are egg shaped and generally shagged. So I need to account for the cost of buying those wheels into the equation.

My MV6 wheels are mint, I have just bought a brand new set of centre caps for them as they weren't supplied when I bought them, and they have four good tyres of the correct size (235x45/17).

Thoughts? And before the vultures descend, these are *not* for sale at this time, not least because I have nothing to prop up the car with in their place (no, I won't use bricks) ::)

the alloys are very sought after, to the point that I want some, my GLS was sat on facelift elites, it now has its original ones on, and the wheels are pending a sale at an agreed price

i'd be considering offering you a swap with my facelift elites but i know you're trying to claw money back as opposed to just changing wheels, and since my tyres are only a month old, its not like i'd be wanting to offer you buckets of cash on top :D

Yeah mate that's pretty much it. I replaced them because my original MV6 wheels were pretty tatty, as they almost all are (lacquer on them seems to be very prone to flaking). At that time I had planned to keep the car for some time yet, but those plans changed. At the age and mileage of my car, leaving on wheels that owe me £350 is silly, as it will make little difference to the price.

Hence I'd be looking for something that doesn't detract from the overall look of the car (as the bodywork and paint is very tidy for the age/mileage, much better than most) but is as cheap as possible as it's not going to add any value. Pre-facelift Elites seem to be the best candidates, as they tend to go pretty cheap, and seem to age much better than pre-facelift MV6 wheels. They seem to stay round too, unlike the pre-facelift MV6 ones!

Ooh ooh ooh!!

I am looking for exactly that for my Miggy!

It currently has the standard mini-facelift CDX 16's on with 225/55/16's that are part used but all have good level of tread on, though the brands are mixed.

If I drove up to you, (bearing in mind the drive will cost me £150 in fuel from London), would you be interested in a part exchange + cash deal?

PM me if it's an option you'd consider and we can talk figures though I understand your points plus as I'm new to the forum, I also understand if you want to give first refusal to long-term forum members.

No worries if not, just thought I'd ask, hope you don't mind :)

i noticed your profile says "1999 omega (A)", you do know the omega A was the vauxhall carlton (opel badged) and that yours is a prefacelift omega B? (or probably a mini facelift omega B)

Hi mate

That's an interesting proposition! However I think it's probably not economically sensible -- let's say your current wheels are worth £100 with tyres, add on your £150 fuel cost and you're already at £250 before you've even given me anything for P/X. And that doesn't account for the fact you're spending a whole day driving, other running costs etc.

These wheels do crop up now and again, it's pretty likely you'll pay upwards of £300 for a good undamaged set, but seeing that you're in London there will probably some that will come up for sale near you that would be much cheaper to collect. So I think it would make financial sense to get some closer to home :).

I may have a set of Elite wheels lined up anyway, will be speaking to someone tonight about that. So these wheels may be up in the for sale forum soon enough... let the battle commence ;)

I was thinking about all that after making the post, you're dead right of course.

Cheers anyway, I shall keep me mits at the ready...

I'll keep you posted if and when I decide to sell them. It's not too expensive to courier a set of wheels if you go through the right people, so it'd be perfectly viable to have them delivered elsewhere in the UK if I get some replacements locally. And on that account, I may well have something sorted... will update soon.
