cleaning parts with caustic soda
« on: 08 July 2011, 12:25:00 »

While cleaning some parts with caustic soda I thought it would be a good idea to put the bearing caps off one of my heads.

I then realised that they were bubbling away and once removed they are now rather dark.  Are they goosed?  Have I screwed up  :-[

caustic will eat away white metal bearing surfaces etc but wont damage metal per say.

You dont use caustic soda on aluminium.

Get a small wire brush adn give the bearing caps a scrub, they will most likely come up nice and clean

Caustic Soda was a bit extreme I think. For deep cleaning the ally on mine I use AutoGlym AlliShine liquid. As its pink DLK might like it too.......
Its recommended by the daddy of em all Rolls Royce so must be good. Does a brilliant job for me anyway  ;)
