Colour info display fault.
« on: 12 July 2011, 18:02:39 »

My CID  has intermittenly played up since i got the car in February.

It works fine for the majority of the time, but occasionly goes on the blink  :o

The screen just turns to a mass of greyish & black interference. :(

To fix it , it just needs a sharp tap on the right side of the display & it comes straight back on as normal.  Strangely a tap anywhere else on the dash area but that precise position, does not work.

I have also noticed that the fault only occurs when a jolt occurs ( like running over a small pothole for example or a bridge joint in the road)

I am wondering if there could be a plug in connector loose behind the 2013 head unit area. I have recently had the clocks & CID out to check for a loose connection , but all seems OK there.

Just wondering if any other oofers have had a similar thing happen & what was the remedy? ;) ;)

TIA     Al :) :) :)

Its a knackered LCD panel and cannot be repaired. It needs a new LCD panel, rarer than rocking horse poo.

Sharp LQ5 series IIRC

Get the surface mount connector on the LCD panel re-soldered (not easy)

Yes - thought it might be something serious.

The thing is the screen "crashes" do not seem to be getting any more frequent & it works as normal for  95% or more of the time.

So what should i do  - live with it as it is or risk getting someone who knows what they're doing to try & fix it ?

Any ideas who may be able to fix it The soldering bit) & at what sort of cost ?  Also does the screen need to be "depaired" by a tech 2 before removal or can I just disconnect it & take it out :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

Sorry for so many questions but electronic & computer  stuff I'm useless :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Replacement panel here:-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-5-inch-Sharp-LCD-Screen-Display-LQ5AW136-TFT-/260784040678?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb7f0aae6

Which is less than I paid for mine.  :-[

Had a look - seems cheap enough to what was predicted when posting earlier in the year about this problem. .If i get one of these does it need "setting" to my car by tech 2 or similar or just a straight plug in ? :-/ :-/ :-/

No reprogramming but will need dismantling of old CID and removal of LCD panel then installation of this one.

Guide here:-

Not a job for me with my lump hammer & bolster then ! ;D ;D

On a serious note, things are a bit tight at the moment - so will just live with as it is I think . But will look to replace it in the near-ish future .

Thanks All . . . regards, Al :y :y :y
