Cam Covers - Vauxhall
« on: 18 July 2011, 20:46:06 »

Having had no joy in getting anyone to take on the task of doing my cam covers, does anybody know how much Vauxhall would charge to do the job and would they do it right as a mechanic mate of mine did them 5 weeks ago but its still leaking.

I keep reading that this can only be done by those familiar with the MIG otherwise i will continue to have problems.

How long does this job take and what do i need to buy. Is there a kit available?

If the smell of burning oil is coming through the centre heater vents when stood still in traffic, would i be right in saying its defo the cam covers thats leaking and dripping onto the exhaust?

How long it takes depends on your experience & skill level, but you should easily be able to start & finish in a morning or afternoon. If you phone or pm andyc he can sort you a 'kit' of gaskets, O rings & black sealant for (IIRC) £75ish. None of the task is difficult, the passenger side can be tricky due to the wiring loom in the way. Follow the guide & you can't go wrong ....... maybe  ;) ;) ;)

here's the guide  :y

Could well be the oil from the covers.  Best way to tell if they are still leaking is get your hand around the back (easy said than done on passenger side i know) and have a feel around and check your plug holes to see if they have filled with oil.  as for the time it takes mate thats up to you...I took my time and did it in a few hours but that was taking top off and cleaning bits as i went. ;)  You can get a kit put together if you get in touch with andy c on here he works for vauxhall and hes a good guy he will be cheaper than going to vauxhall themselfs...I only got the cam cover gaskets and the 16 small o'rings and the sealent.  I never bothered with the other gaskets which i think most don't but i could be wrong.  Hope this helps mate. :y
