Omega 2.2 petrol Timing belt
« on: 02 August 2011, 17:37:16 »

Hi guys. Now I am back to Owning an Omega ( after having 4 of them - I happy to be back).

But now I have encountered a great injustice - I usually try to use only GATES timing belt kits. I had 3 omegas with 2.0 x20xev engines and did timing belt on 2 of them. Additonally i had v6 2.5 facelift that I did cambelt as well. All gates and I could easely find them in the region of 50 quid for x20xev and 65 for x25xev. Now I have 2.2 ( i think its z22xe). Here it becomes anoying - my timing belt kit is just over 100 quid. On doing some more research - its just 2 ( from some sources 3) teeth longer than for x20xev. I have noticed that tentioner can give a big adjustment level. So has anyone tried to fit x20xev timing belt kit on z22xe?

On inspection I cant see any difference between idler pulleys on my current engine and old ones from x20xev. Very small ( more estetic than functional) difference in tentioning pulley.

Any thoughts and experience exchange will much appreciated.

If you are planning to do just the belt its a false economy on the 4 pots, its normally either the guide pulleys or the water pump which give up and take the belt with them.

This happened to me, a few months after getting the belt done the water pump went, taking the belt with it so both had to be done........ :(

I had water pump failure before and know its how annoying it can be to have relatively new cambelt damaged by water pump.

Anyway I got a cambelt kit + water pump+ auxillary belt for 70 quid. Best part- its Dayco belts with Ina pulleys.

Personally I would not buy cambelt parts from Best Parts Buy.
To many problems for my liking  :-?
