Dipstick tube won't budge.
« on: 30 August 2011, 10:37:49 »

Hi,
Is there a knack to getting this item out? After having removed the clamp at the top, I expected it would just pull out, but it won't. It turns round freely enough though.

Yes, pull, but you have to overcome the seal, so it will be tight.

Mine was unbelievably tight. I had to put a plank across the engine, tie a rope round the dipstick and use a crowbar pressing on the plank to pull mine out.

Apply pressure then wiggle and twist.

Thanks all, I just wanted to check there wasn't something arcane before the application of brute force.

they often rust in - i have had to drill them out on V6's (engine out of car) be careful wiggling it as it can work harden and snap - hence drilling it out
