I will indeed check nice simple things first. Nothing else is giving signs of alternator or battery problems so fingers crossed..

Just be careful that everything is switched off before you stick your fingers in around the linkage,be a shame to lose a finger for faster wipers ;) :y

I had this problem and found lubrication was the solution.
