Got my cheappo tech2 this morning, plugged it into the wifes old laptop serial port, and the fault said 'Front passenger seat airbag actuation' This would probably be due to the little plug under the seat - the plug had come off somehow and wires were hanging naked and I presume earthed together - lucky my seats dont have airbags or I imagine the bag would have deployed, but the cheapo tech2 reset it perfectly.
 On the plus side aswell, I checked the engine for codes, and 'code 57 - code unknown' came up but reset fine, took it out for a 30 mile drive and checked again, but not a single fault now   Not bad for £30 im well happy with it, and the software is english   It doesnt have the ability to check solenoid operation or engine temp etc, but it does tell you the faults in text rather than numbers - I unplugged the EGR while it was running and it immediatly came up with 'EGR fail'. So for just clearing warning lights and finding faults, its a diamond

Strange that it picked this code up, I havent seen an eml light for about a month, but on paperclip test back then, it didnt show any codes  :-/ i'll keep my eye on it tho - cheers TB

Might be old.  Once 'timed out' some codes remain in ECU, but not flashed out with paperclip...

You'll have to sort it for the mot - its a failure if light doesn't come on with ignition, and go back out after.

defo not part of mot test had mine done on monday and asked the tester direct !!

Hi Guys my best mate - who's just passed away with cancer - was an MOT tester  actually right upto 2 weeks before he died, SRS light is not an MOT failure NOR do you have to keep your airbags you can put a wood steering wheel or anything on with no probs - how do you think they'd get round a front baby seat when you turn off that airbag? BUT ABS light is on the test bulb must light up and then go out exactly as the individual maker set it up - if you look on the wall in your test station it actually has bulb time IN SECONDS on a chart. The powers that be love us don't they. As a little side point I've been looking through my '97 autodata book and many cars actually list a higher CO content than there allowed on test - how the hell does VOSA get away with that? Anything else is a case of "if fitted it must work" but remember the tester is not allowed to take things apart - for instance if you don't have a spare wheel or it's illegal take it out and fill your boot with tool box's they don't take em out or chuck the spare and carry a can of tyre inflater - it's perfectly legal and MOT proof PLUS it makes  a good place to hide your porn - who's missus ever looks in the spare wheel well.
