Main Beam Bulbs
« on: 11 November 2008, 08:21:06 »

I have noticed that with high beam the light quality seems to be worse than when on dip beam (HID xenons). It is like the yellow from the standard high beam destroys the pure light given by the low beam HID,s.
Is it worth fitting new high beam bulbs ?,if so anybody had any good advise on type/make....1998 elite...thanks

Mark...good idea, but what about the "fireup time" on HIDS with headlight flash..also does the level adjuster work with high beam..but I suppose not so important about dazzling other drivers as simply dip lights.
It would start getting abit congested at back of lights with all them ballast units,as I have a HID upgrade on foglights aswell,so I would now have total HID lighting...wonder what MOT man would say ???

I would go for some later +30 type whiter halogen bulbs.

HID's are great for standard lights but, they do not fire up quickly and age based on strikes (power on cycles) so the bulb life on a full beam setup is likely to be shortened quite considerably as a result.

i had  them in my 2001 mv6 and all i can say is that there is no better lights in the country and that is no exaggeration but do take 2-5 seconds to warm up fully but when up to full power every car you meet dipped before you came around the corner saying that my hid,s where 50w ;) not the usual 35w so where even brighter, when i put them on they totally blanked out the vx hid,s . but the bulbs do as said ^^don,t like the on off of main beam and as result mine dimmed and smoked up inside so i removed them (after 1 year so not to bad) and to tell you the truth they will be going back in because even will the bulbs smoked inside they still are at least 3 times brighter than the crap halogen in there now or then again i might just buy some h7 cheapo ebay bulbs and see how they go at the 50w power, don,t no if they will be the same or not .

What's really needed is a set of eyelids from a BM or Audi so the HID stays on but the lid pops over it when on dip.

Thanks DC...will give them a search on fleabay as think HID,s for highbeam will be an issue with flash and fireup time.
