Phillips DC012 6 disc changer and SC804 CDC Head
« on: 15 June 2009, 11:50:28 »

Hey, for the past few weeks now my car audio seems to be playing up and it is really starting to do my head in.
ok first off, the head unit... it cuts out every now and then and then comes back. by cutting out i mean the actual display goes out as well and the light around the volume button goes as well. the timing is random sometimes it will just be a flicker, other times it will turn itself off for 10 mins at a time.
Second (this is to do with the head unit as well) i have though about trying to sort it myself but as i love this car so much i dont really want to mess it all up so, if i take the head unit out and unplug it will i have to re-enter any codes etc (this is just so i can find the codes and have them ready, if i decided to do it myself)?

Last but not least, the 6 disc changer (DC012), this did work and its great being able to have multiple cd's (as i cant use SD cards etc until i get a new head unit for it) but now it wont read any CD's, not even bought ones (as in not ones i have burnt myself). it started off that i just had to take the cartridge out and put it back in again and all was well for a couple of days. Now it wont read the at all saying ERR on each CD then once its been through all the CD's it will say there are no CD's in it...

Any help on this would be very much appreciated as i love my music.

Regards,

Sean

Check the power connecter is firmly in place at teh rear of teh stereo, and if you have the version with detachable panel, that the contacts are clean.

Yes, you will need teh head unit code if power is removed.

Changer sounds as if laser has gone.

ok cool, next question or 2... im trying to get the headuint out now, is the black cage ment to come out with it? if it is, then ima have to pul on it as its jammed on something, if its not, then the headunit is tuck in the cage >_<

Also, can the changer be fixed? if i disconnect the changer is their another code for that one? if not i will take it out and see if it needs a clean

The stereo is often a very tight fit in the cage.

The changer does not have a code, so can be disconnected and cleaned. If cleaning does not work, due to lack of spares, I`m afraid that we are unable to assist, but some others on the Oof forum may be able to .

Cheers for the help dave... the CD changer now works after a bit of a clean and as for the headunit... what a nightmare that was.... im guessing the previous owner had it out once before as the warranty seal is broken and the black case was all bent to hell and back so i had to re shape that the best i could..... all i can do now is hope that it dont cut out anymore :D

Ok im still having trouble with the headunit... ive noticed now (after driving in the dark) that the back lights are light when the audio cuts out but it still goes back to just showing the date (hope that makes sence).

I also have a new problem... since i have tried to get the sorted, after doing the "check" for the lights, all is good until about 1 minute into the drive when the check light comes back on and the display shows "Headlight, Tail light"... the issue is, there is nothing wrong with the lights, i gout and checked and all was fine...
any ideas on this 1?
