Remote help with fuse 15 blowing (I'm in France)
« on: 25 June 2009, 13:31:32 »

Need some hep here guys.. Just driven down 600 miles down in France near Alp D'Huez and having problems with fuse 15 keeps blowing. This I believe does loads of thinks but mainly the panel lights and the ECU.

I have had problems in the past with the fuse blowing randomly but very rarely but now its happening nearly every time i start the car. Usually around 10 secs after turning on the ignition. Which is  problems because the engine just cuts out.

But, it has only ever done this when the car is stationary never moving..

The question is what an cause this to happen. What comes on a few seconds after the ignition comes on. But not when the car is moving.

I have just tried running without the A/C on which has stopped the fuse blowing but that maybe coincidence.

Any ideas would be welcome. Unfortunately I don't have any wiring diagrams with me but I do have a meter...

Just off to ride my bike up Les Deux-Alpes, Ill check back later on... Thanks..

Hmmm, just been out to my Facelift W Reg CDX, it appears mine is a 30 Amp, this is correct as the housing is yellow. What size fuse is in yours?  ::)

According to this forum, an '03 should have a 20 Amp fitted. This should cover:-
Reverse lamps, glove compartment lamp, automatic level control system, cruise control, seat and mirror adjustment, radio, heated rear seats, sun roof, instrument illumination, window operation, cooling fan, headlamp range adjustment.
Please let us know what size is fitted, and what colour the fuse holder is.  :y

Its a 20amp yellow.. Unfortunately it covers so much stuff is hard to pin down, I might go for the A/C fans as it seemed to be ok when i turned off the climate panel.

Weds

I've got an 02 Facelift 2.6 and I'm having exactly the same problem with fuse 15. Did you manage to sort it out? Mine sometimes blows randomly just after starting the engine, but I can make it blow by pressing down on the door lock pin with my elbow. This was quite embarrassing when I did it at a car park exit machine while leaning out to put money in, and held up everyone behind me. Any ideas?

It's good to hear someone else has the same fault, (not for you though) no it's not resolved yet..

Got some theory's and thoughts..

It's only happened when stationary or twice when pulled up to a stop, never when moving..

When in France (I'm now home) it blew about 4 fuses in succession, hence the request at the time for some help. Mind you it also blew a fuse whilst in Dover docks and on the way down in France.. Six in one day !!

On the drive home it was OK even in 32deg heat, thank goodness for a working A/C

I happens quite randomly, it can go for months without happening.

Fuse 15 is linked with the car level control, dash lights (that's the warning lights) Headlamp levelling, warning buzzer, anti theft unit, outside mirror, seat heating, seat adjustment memory, light switch, reversing lamps, wiper rain sensor, info display

Most of these supplies are for the control side not the load side, switching relay coils etc.

One time it blew was when TB was installing a colour display when we had the dash out, not sure what point it blew but after the dash was put back in it had blown. I'm now getting hold of a spare dash to swap over and check it out.

I did notice when if first started blowing fuses that the cable down to the car level sensor was trapped by the suspension and slightly crimped. I have been thinking about disconnecting this sensor from the loom. I have also pulled the relay for the compressor as the suspension has been changed (before I bought the car) to Bilstein units all round without the inflatable shocks.

I'm sure there is something that goes through a check routine when the ignition is first turned on but not when the car is moving.. Maybe the ABS or Air bags or even the level control..
