Yes - you need to change the screen anyway for NCDR head unit.  The screen you get for the NCDR (either GID or CID) will need to have check control disabled via tech2.  This will give you fuel computer functions as well.

Is the check control on the wiper arm as i have no buttons to that.I took the cowl off to look at the wires and there is a small block but thats for the speed of the wipers

You can't use the check control at all. Your car is missing too many bits.

With NCDx series stereos, all fuel computer functions, satnav functions, etc are controlled from stereo itself, and steering wheel audio controls if your car has those fitted.
