JVC head units with DAB Receivers and other issues
« on: 03 August 2009, 21:14:08 »

Hi Folks.
It's been a while
Wonder if any one can help out?

As part of my grand plan in modifying my 'meega I wanted a new head unit that would:
1. Play stuff from my iPod
2. play CDs
3. Receive DAB stations
4. Play DVDs through monitors for the kids in the back

Had a JVC  KD-AVX11 installed
Mostly fine except that the screen had to be held in (with my finger) to show anything >:(
Reverse camera nice touch but no good with the screen not working. :(
DAB staions reception not too bad. (Via screen mounted stick on aerial)

3 head units later (all have same problem with screen not working) I get  a KD-DV7402/1.
Different sort of screen - works fine.
However, unlike the other one it seems not to want to save any of the settings that I put in:- clock date preset stations. Every time I start the car back to 0:01 on the clock the display setting is back on 'demonstration' and no presets. >:( >:(
My iPod doesnt come through when plugged in
I'm also down to about 5 DAB stations - nothing like the variety  that I know are broadcasting and one of the reasons I wanted DAB in the car

I'm now at the stage of not wanting to phone the ICE installer coz I've no faith that it'll make any difference (it's been going on since May and I've taken the car back about 5 times). :-/ :'(

Does anyone know these head units?
I dont find the JVC instruction booklet anything other than incomprehensible and I'm beginning to get fed up.

Incidentally, as I now need a separate screen for the reversing camera, does anyone know if the sat nav screen for Prefacelift Elites (that sits in the neat little space to the left of the H/U) can be adapted for use with the reverse camera?

Any help/advice much appreciated!

(losing the will to live) Matthew ;)

Sounds like a really bad installation to me - difficult to comment further without seeing what has been done.

However, most high end JVC units have a dual position for the fuse at the rear, can be marked VW / Norm and has the effect of reversing the live supplies around. Assuming your installer knew what he was doing, and has swapped over the red and yellow wires to cope with the igntion being in a different place on the Omega, if the fuse is also in the wrong place (VW), it can undo that alteration and means that the unit resets every time the key is removed from the ignition.

May not cure your fault, but is where I woudl start first.

As far as DAB reception, get rid of that crappy piece of damp string you have sellotaped up in your front window, and get a decent external aerial, and only then will your receive the stations that you are expecting.

As far as the small screen, there are a few 2.5" screens knocking around on the auction sites at the moment, and they look around a similar size to the old Carin screen, so you may be able to modify something to fit in that space. I must admit to being a little impressed by the quality of some of those small screens, certainly up to the job of a reverse camera
