Gremlins again
« on: 07 November 2009, 19:23:25 »

Dont know if its the weather, changes in temperature or condensation/damp but whenever it rains things start going wrong.
By this i mean sunroof opens on its own radio will switch to CD on its own doors could lock blah blah blah.
Anyway the latest one and the one i need help with is this:-
Driving along and interior light comes on and wont switch off when its on the 2 x spotlights will NOT turn on so stop car lock doors light goes off then could be 1 min or 5 mins alarm goes off because interior light has come on cant lock the door with the key as its siezed up so have to use remote fob.
1, should i take the bulb out?
2, can i switch alarm off AFTER locking doors remotely?

sounds like you have a seal  gone and water is getting to the electrics, there is a water switch in dash board witch when gets wet will open the sunroof (seen it in floods) look at all seals and sun roof seals are ok, and cheack that the drain holes are clear in the sun roof.

I have heard of this switch also in other Vauxhalls, and remember around 10 years ago one of the fields near Luton Airport where the Vauxhall factory used to store new cars got flooded - and all the windows and roofs opened and wrecked the interiors on a good few hundred cars.

that switch does exist, and it was to prevent from being trapped in a flood ! And I seem to recall on the Calibra that talk was of it being mounted somewhere around the floor area under the seats - not sure if integrated with anything else, ecu`s etc, but if its fitted to one Vauxhall, it`ll be fitted to a few more !

I also had a serious water ingress in both a VW Beetle and a Ford Galaxy when it rained, where the carpets in the passenger footwells got soaking very quickly.

Turned out on both occasions to be the sunroof drain pipes becoming detached from the sunroof channel near the top of the A-Post - re-attach the pipes and everything dried up. Worth checking ?

It was around 1993 - 1995 when I was doing contract work for the airport, and the field was mainly Cavaliers and Calibras if that narrows your research down a bit.

Any chance of a picture of that, as I will get my guys to look for similar on other Vauxhalls (purely out of curiosity)

only saw it when I tuck out the dash board to replace the rubber around the dash to the window, there are loads of types, seen one in a volvo which has a plate on pass side and one on drivers side when water gets in on both floors high enough to connect the to up, opens the windows and doors, if you know a blind person its like there cup filler ( works the same way), mercedes have a pressure switch that when pressure is biult up inside the car makes the doors and windows open, as far as i know there is no replcement part as none mechanical and dont wear out, but the wire's can get trapped, the wire's are in a black sealant, think it gose to one of the ECU in dash but did not look and it was 2 years ago. :y
