« on: 18 January 2010, 12:13:17 »

Hi everyone this will probably only be answerable by a select few that have the pikey hook option fitted to the rear of their omegas.I'm not sure which colour wire I need to connect to for a switched live for the secondary/charging connector on my towbar electrics, everything else is ok just one wire left to connect. Thanks again guys, girls and pikeys.

You're best using a voltage sensitive relay such as a Smartcom clicky  :y

I thought I was doing really well in getting the towbar off the old car and onto the new one without having to spend anymore cash! But as usual the Bank of Omega reqiures yet another deposit (bugger) ;)

Youre going to need a relay of sorts anyway to power your caravan's fridge & leisure battery. What came off the original car? You can use an ordinary relay switched when the alternator runs (blue wire I think on my Senator?) but then you'll have to run this switched supply to the back of the car, if you use a Smartcom type relay, you can just use the red wire in the plug where the other 12N connections are.
Be aware that caravan wiring differs slightly depending on how old your 'van is. Later 'vans (98-ish) have a habitation relay, oldr 'vans don't.

I've used the relay that came off the old car and it was connected to a purple wire my 'new'(ha ha) car has a violet wire and a lilac wire.I am thinking that it will be one of these, saying that what might have been purple on the old car may have in fact been violet due to the night closing in when it was taken off ! Not sure where your purple/violet wires are connected to. Is it the switched side of the relay or the power side?  :-/

Just a thought ...... could this 'relay' be a buzzer linked to the indicators?  :-/ :-/

Well I have had a look on the relay and it is marked A2 the connector marked A1 is attached to the body of the car so I am not being much use or have I missed something obvious?

They're not number/figures I recognise.
Have a look at this ..... clicky
While not specifically a caravan's split charge relay it does basically the same thing. The object is to supply a 12 volt supply to your fridge but only when your car's engine is running because of the current draw would flatten the car's battery very quicky if the alternator wasn't running. So the red (fridge) cable of the 12S is connected to a 12volt supply from the car (the socket/plug in the back of the boot) via a relay that's switched 'on' ie the relay's contacts are closed when the engine is running.
