Have I knackard an electrical circuit somewhere ?!
« on: 15 February 2010, 17:17:46 »

Let me explain first:

Couple of days ago I decided to do the 'boot trick' on my 2001 facelift model.

bonnet up, went to disconnect battery, then someone came up and I got chatting for 5mins or so, anyhow after they went, inside car pulled off the trim to get to the wiring, and unplugged the plug that has the wire to snip, suddenly noticed that the led on the console was flashing, in a panic I quickly snipped the wire for the boot feed, and plugged the plug back in place.  All was well and till I came to start the engine, and that's where the problem starts !!.  :(

So from here on;

everything back in place, go to start the car, it turns over very slowly like the batteries flat,   so I think okay maybe to do with the immobiliser ?, do the ignition on and press the lock on the key fob, it does its lock and unlock, try again and no problem car starts, go for a drive & test the boot, all seemed well, then when to start the car later on in the day, and goes back to slow turn over initially, then try again, and starts normally.  :-/

However, on the way to work this morning, key in ignition, turn, and very very slow and sluggish like the battery is flat.
Phone RAC, they come out & jump my car off the van and no problem, do a bit of checking, and a battery check came back as my battery is need of replacement.  :'(

I've replaced the battery & I'm hoping that all is well, I haven't yet rewire just yet, case I don't need to ?.

Oh yes... by the way, my old battery which is a Genuine Vauxhall one, and the little charge dot, isn't a light green, but more of a dark green colour.

Would appreciate any help / advise as hoping I haven't gone and done untold / un-repairable damage, otherwise there's going to be a car being broken up for spares on here soon  :'(.

Has the new battery been fitted? If so any trouble since it's been fitted?

I put the new battery on last night and it fired up stright away, so as a few hours have gone by, I'm about to try starting the car before I go to work at 6:30am !.

Thanks for getting back to me, it's appreciated.  :y

I'll let you know later if all is okay or not - Heres crossing my fingers  :-?

I snipped the thin wire with the battery still on.

I've put the new battery on, so I'm about to try starting the car before I go to work at 6:30am !.

I don't think you need it on your car, you just press & hold the boot release button.

[Hijacking thread]
Did the circuit that monitors the speed of the car ever get finished/designed so we could do this mod but not worry about opening the boot whilst moving?

Well so far so good, all seams well - but still hoping it will be to !  :o

After the car sitting for 8hrs in the works car park today, got in it to come home, crossed everything I could think of (do !), and car started first crack no problems, then stopped off a couple of places on the way home, and each time when starting up again, there was no slow turn over problems, and I'm hoping that it continues to be that way.

Though still wondering what the problem was, as very strange, as didn't have any problems with the battery before I did the boot trick ??  :-? .

Thanks to those that have helped out, it was very much appreciated.

Hoping that the problem doesn't return.

Regarding the boot opening when you don't want it to, the last bit of help / advice link said;

"Hillper has since discovered that if the doors are locked, the boot will not pop open - so if your doors are locked, you cannot accidentally open boot".

Regards
