Does anyone know how to replace/change the S button on an automatic gear lever.

Ive got one where the writing has worn off and want to swap them over with a good one - ideally without having to take the lever off.

I know the switch has no connector, and is soldered by the solenoid.

Not sure how switch comes out

You can show me when you find out, my 'S' was worn away ages ago.  ;)

I liked the earlier Senator's sport button best ie the long switch at the back of the selcetor  :y

In that case, how would I swap selector levers over between 2 cars?

Basically how do I remove the selector?

Dunno, doesn't look nice.

Button probably easier if someone knows how to remove button switch from lever

IIRC the "S" button will prise out with careful use of a small screwdriver, ideally the one`s used by watch/spectacle repairers

Hi,
As Rob G, it can be gently prised out with a very fine screwdriver, then push the wires up from under the gaitor.  Be careful not to brake the plastic lugs off of the top of the switch.  The new one has to be soldered in.  They cost around £30.  If you get a good one from breakers just swap the cap over it is easier and cheaper.

I've bought a whole "new" selector lever with a working interlock solenoid - just got to swap it out now.

Its a fair way down on the list of jobs to do TBH. Got leaky cam covers to sort out first

Would an 'S' transfer not be easier? Any good sign shop, printers ought to be able to produce a hard wearing one. Unfortunately I don't have an auto Omega currently, but maybe someone could take a photo and the dimensions of the 'S' so you could get a similiar one created.
It'd take all of 5 seconds to apply the transfer rather then changing the unit.
I do the same for some of my vehicles, if a button is worn I go to my local sign/print shop and they create an exact copy and it looks great...you could never tell it wasn't original as it matches the old worn one 100%

Well, I've actually got the new selector now. My interlock relay didn't work either, so I can solve 2 problems in one go now.

Seems that there are 5 rivets to drill out and then one bolt, a connector and that's it - hopefully.
