Central locking issues...
« on: 24 July 2010, 11:34:04 »

Had a regular customer of mine out a couple of times this week, his C/L has stopped working on the remote, they manually all work fine. Put the Vaux-com on and it can't communicate with the CDL ECU and the Alarm section states no remote keys programmed. Set the remote key programming into learn mode and still not detecting the remote, normally only take 3 or 4 presses and it picks the new remote up. Am I right in thinking as the CDL ECU still isn't communicating that it is fubarred?? If I pick one up off a breaker what else will I need bearing in mind I can re-program his original remote back on?

Thanks folks :y

It will either have a central locking ECU or an alarm ECU, not both. If it has an alarm then a single ECU handles both functions.

Thanks Kevin, it's a 2001my 2.6 CDX with alarm so could it be the ECU? I'll see if have a spare 3 button remote (I think I do) and try programming that one.

Any suggestions as to what else would stop it letting me program new remote keys?

Could be an incompatibility between the ECU and whatever you're using to program it ("My Naff Code Reader"?). It should list at least 2 keys already paired. The fact that this fails and you also have a problem pairing a fob makes me think you're not communicating with the ECU properly.

Did the fob previously work with this car? I.E. is it known to be the correct type?

I would try it with a Tech 2 before condemning the ECU, to be honest. They seldom fail.

Thanks again Kevin, I'm using my genuine Vaux-Com, it is showing 3 transponders programmed but no remote keys. The remote aparently worked before but I have no first hand knowledge of that. I'm assuming that as the car has the alarm fitted that all thr programming was done through the Anti-theft System menu rather than the Electronic Central Locking menu?

Sadly, I have seen a few occasions where "My Naff Code Reader" (presumably Vaux-com is same) buggers up key programming to the point it won't reprogram again.

Most of those times, it has been recoverable with genuine Tech2.

But firstly make sure its the right fob for the car - generally megamos/delphi for alarmed cars (but check the ecu and the back of the fob) :y
