I feel quite dim having to ask this but how do you get into the bit with the battery?

My fob is the two button type. I have found the tab so you can slide the horsehoe away but then what? Is there a picture somewhere ?/.

I am assuming it is the battery as it is maybe 8 years old now so first thing to try!

The main body of the key then can be split to reveal the inners.  The battery (CR2032) is held in place by a clip that needs to be released, and ensure it is correctly positioned when you put the new battery in Varche

Well that went well! Not.

I couldn't  get the clip out.

I carefully coerced the battery out and inserted the new one with clip still in situ. Still doesn't work! There was a carefully folded piece of card "spacer" inside. Still doesn't work with or without the spacer.

Methinks I might be needing the expert services of one Mr M.Imber

Update. My day has just plumbed new depths. I have lost the rectangular black piece (2mm by 2mm by 6mm) I wonder if that is the problem?

That won't help you starting the car .. but should not prevent the door locks working ...

thats vry bad news!! its the chip that the car needs to run, you eed to search very very carefully where you took it apart to see if you can find it!!

Plenty of cheap two button fobs about, but you need that chip or it works out very expensive.  :-/

If you think Vauxhall is expensive .....!
I'm in the process of getting another key for SWMBO's Smart. I ordered the blade & fob last week, it arrived yesterday £87something and it's now booked in a service to be coded to the car. Unlike Vauxhall, where you get a Car Pass that contains(ed) all codes you'd need for the car, Mercedes uses a system where you need to apply to Germany for a 'TAN' code, so even if you have a Winstar machine (MB's Tech II) it's useless unless you have a TAN code, which you pay for. So Monday will be half hour labour at £50 plus £25 for the TAN all plus vat ....... another £90something
