Memory Buttons, Mirrors and Lights
« on: 20 October 2010, 13:54:14 »

Hi, I have programmed button number 3 on my memory seats to fold/tilt down the passenger mirror. This comes in handy when I am reversing.
However, I have to keep the button held in so that the mirror folds/tilts all the way.

My question is, is there a way to have it so i only have to press it once to fold/tilt the mirror down instead of having to hold the button '3' in?
Or can I hook it up to the reversing parking sensors (as when i selected reverse (manual gear box) a sound gets omitted for 1 second, then the parking sensors come into play) so it automatically does it? or indeed any other button (for example the Traffic Master button).

The second question is I have some flat self adhesive LED light strips. they have two trailing wires coming off them (neg and pos I guess). If I wanted to fit these to the underside of the door card, is it best to wire them to the kerb lights that are already there? I am guessing it should be a quick pos to pos and neg to neg connection (may have to splice the wires). Some say to wire it to the interior light, but does that mean if i use the interior light switch (on the light switch cluster), will it also make the LED strip come on?

The final question is also to do with LED lights.
I want to install some 'foot well lights' like you get on the new BMWs etc.
Which LEDS are the best to get for something like that (i dont want them too bright, a nice dim light would be best IMO).
After deciding on the type of LED lights/strip, which is the best way to power them? As they probably need a permanent live feed? Where can I get a permanent live feed from?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mirrors - possible if you fancy designing and building the electronics to do it

Chav lights - not sure LEDs will suit that application to be honest...

Is yours a prefacelift or facelift?
I have a 2003 2.6 Elite and have done the same thing with the mirrors. Pos 1 is my normal set up, and Pos 2 has the N/S mirror dipped so you can see the kerb. I only have to press button 2briefly and let go and the mirror will travel all the way down, and then only have to press button 1 briefly and it will go back to the normal position. I remember TB telling me pos 3 was the tech 2 position, lowest and furthest away from the steering wheel. Maybe this 3rd setting works slightly differently?
I rarely use the dipping mirror, but if I need to, it works well.
However, the seat movememt does require the button being pressed all the time until it reaches it's final positon.

No - I personally use 3 for tech2.  All 3 memories are the same, and you have to press and hold for all 3 ;)

.... and you have to press and hold for all 3 ;)

but as Josh says, you need the button held for the seats to move, but if the only thing that's going to move are the mirrors, then a quick press is enough.... my dipped door mirrors for reversing are on posn 3  :y  :y

Mine is a Facelift.

Any ideas on the LED lights and wiring them to the kerb lights?
