Hi all,
Got a problem where there is no audio sound from the speakers but a crackling/buzzing noise only from the rear o/s speaker. This noise increases with engine revs.
Do you think this is a problem with the o/s rear speaker/tweeter or an electrical short somewhere?
Turn off the stereo and the crackling is still there. Remove the stereo and the noise goes.
If it is a short is it going to be on the speaker cables or could it be to do with the puddle light or door switch? Is there a common weak point where the cables break?
It's a standard ccrt700 unit and speakers as fitted to a cdx.

And what happens if you remove that speaker?

I haven't tried that yet. I'll disconnect that speaker when the car comes home later and post the result.

Disconnected rear o/s speaker at door card and still no sound from other speakers. Reconnected speaker and buzzing/crackling back. Also, no loud beep when confirming stereo security code.

Stereo came to life for a couple of minutes and now nothing. I guess there must be a short somewhere between the stereo and the rear os speaker. Is there a usual place where these break/chafe?

Re your speaker/shortage problem, I have a similar problem where the driver's side door speaker cuts in and out.  Two things clear the fault (1) turn up the bass control and (2) unplug the wiring socket at the door, wiggle it and replace it.  It seems that either way vibrates the system and whatever is faulty then reconnects for a while, but the fault reccurs.  Has anyone any idea how I can find the real cause of the fault?

the radio is powering up?
it is tuned to a station?
you hear nothing but a crackling from one speaker?
i would first remove HU and check connections at the rear

Crackling speaker is usually a sign that the speaker voice coil has broken down and needs replacing asap - if left unchecked, can damage the audio amp in the head unit very quickly

not hijacking thread  but question dave if the above is correct (which it is) wouldn't the other speakers still work ? unless of course amp has already gone

Depending on the seriousness of the fault, some head units may have failed internally, hence no sound, some may have gone into protection mode if they have detected a fault, and some will only operate if they see a "pair" of speakers fitted.
