How to: Traffic Master as Lock/Unlock Switch
« on: 23 February 2011, 11:45:17 »

How to Lock and unlock your car using the Traffic Master Switch.

If you do not use (or have disconnected the Traffic Master system) and now are wondering what to do with the TM Switch,
why not link it to your cars Central Locking system.
Here is how to do it (did it on my Vectra years ago, so tried it on my Omega facelift at the same time I did the Boot Mod and it worked!).

(0.0)
Firstly, disconnect the car's Battery.

(1.0)
Locate the TM module located under the steering column and there should be two sets of connectors feeding into it.
1 (smaller) connector leads from the TM Switch to the TM Module.
The other (larger) leads from behind the stereo to the TM Module.

(2.0)
Pull out the smaller connector (It should have 4 wires grouped together with a black casing: Red, Green, Blue, Yellow) as this is what we will be using.
Cut the connector off as you will need to Solder/Splice/Join some speaker wire to the Yellow and Blue wires of this.
It's up to you what you do with the TM Module - I just unplugged and removed it altogether.

(3.0)
Remove the drivers kick panel and locate the 12pin central locking plug.

(4.0)
Cut some length of speaker wires (2 wires) - enough so it reaches from the 2 wires in (2.0) and also the 12 pin plug.

(5.1)
Solder/Splice/Join 1 of the speaker wires to the Blue wire of the TM Switch.
Solder/Splice/join 1 of the speaker wires to the Yellow wire of the TM Switch.

(5.2)
The other 2 wires of the TM Switch (Red and Green) are used to illuminate the Switch.
If you wish to illuminate the swicth then you can Solder/Splice/Join these to the illumniation wires of another switch on your dash.

(6.0)
Solder/Splice/Join 1 of the speaker wires (that are now joined to the TM Switch) to Pin2 of the 12 pin Plug.
Solder/Splice/Join 1 of the speaker wires (that are now joined to the TM Switch) to Pin6 of the 12 pin Plug.
(If i recall correctly, the colours on the 12 Pin plug to join to are 'Brown' and 'Red and Brown')

(7.0)
Insulate the wiring.

(7.1)
To test: Reconnect the car's Battery.
Sit inside the car with all the doors closed.
Press the TM Switch and the doors should lock.
Press the TM Switch again, and the doors should unlock.

(8.0)
Screw the kick panel back into place as the Mod is now complete.

And before anyone says it - I know its a pointless Mod, but then again a TM switch that is not connected to anything is pointless also.

I would be concerned that this could possibly overide the "automatic unlock" system in the event of an accident :-/

TBH - I didn't even know that Omegas had that feature.

Guess there's only 1 way (that comes to mind) on how to test it - and I hope I never go down that route.

So how is this easier than pressing the drivers door pin down...

Not easier, not a replacement - just something to keep the TM switch occupied with  :P

Ah, ok, seems like effort for no gain. I'll get my switch occupied with TrafficMaster functionality...
