Combo / Corsa aftermarket head unit, replace CD30
« on: 13 June 2011, 22:25:13 »

Hi All, I've just joined so that I can hopefully help somebody in future and save them making the same mistakes I did (money wasting) and save time on searching the tinterweb.

I recently got myself an 06 Vauxhall Combo Crew Van.
It had CD30 head unit in that kept skipping.
I wanted something with an aux in so I could use my ipod.

Having searched around I decided to go cheap and get myself a single din unit off a popular auction website  ;)

Then came the fun part..
What you need is a car audio connecter to enable you to connect your new head unit. The one I needed (and probably you if you are reading this) is this.. PC2-85-4 (search google shopping and you'll not have to pay £29.99 at halfords!)

You will also need a new facia to fill the gap that removing the larger head unit will leave. Once again I got humiliated by the Halford pricing. You need a fp-19-00, you should find one for under £10 (mine was £17.99!)

You can also buy the head unit removal keys if you really want to but essentially you need four thin pokey things to push into the four wholes to release the head unit (I used some spare spokes from a bicycle wheel build).

As you may have guessed that is where we start, poke your pokey things in and you should feel how the clips release, if you can do this simultaneously the head unit will become free to pull out (i managed it but you may need another pair of hands). Pull out the double din cage, this may take a bit of fiddling, try prizing the catches with a screwdriver.

disconnect all the plugs and take the old unit out of the way.

dont put your new facia in yet as you will need the space for your wiring fun!

you can now try out all your connections to the new unit.
Theres an orange and red wire that don't seem to go anywhere. The red one needs to go to a power source that comes on with your ignition. Most people use the cig lighter.
The orange illuminates your new head unit.
Cut the first cm of rubber away from the end of both the orange and red.
Thread the red one to the back of your ciggy lighter and connect it to the black wire by pulling the ciggy connecter off, pushing the red wire into the black wires socket then reconnecting.
Now take the orange one and thread it through to the back of the hazard light switch. You'll need to use a knife to shave a section off the black and white wire enabling you to wrap the orange one round it making the connection.

The above steps probably needed a but of dash dismantling but i'm getting bored now and shooting stars is on so i'm sure you can figure it out.

Give it a test!!
Hopefully all is working fine  :y

if so replace the any dismantled dash parts and cig lighter.

You'll need to pull the plugs out of the back of your new unit.

fit the head units frame into the facia then pull all the wires through the cage and push the facia into place in your dash.
Reconnect all the plugs and If you're like me you may want check again now before closing up.

if it works push wire guts back in through the facia and push your head unit in..

Good work, now go for a drive and crank it up!  :D

I didn't have the foresight to take pictures, if anyone feels like it post your work below.

p.s. I hope I kept the instructions simple, I wasn't trying to patronise anyone just help as many as possible.
