Sunroof not closing
« on: 28 September 2011, 08:35:35 »

I'm finding that my sunroof doesn't always close properly - it will close to within a couple of inches then reverse and go back another couple of inches. This sounds like the sensor mechanism reacting to some sort of blockage / stiffness ... I have cleaned and lubricated all around the tracks and can't see anything untoward. I've also reset the sunroof in all positions. (2003 CDX)

The roof will close fully however if the switch is pressed in and held. It closes fine when it's been in a tilt position. I've seen the excellent guide on here for cleaning the switch, but I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this one and has a solution before I start taking it to bits!

I found mine was starting to play up like that too. I stripped out per the maintenance guide, cleaned it, then refitted. Unfortunately it didn't cure it and continued to misbehave  >:(

I solved it by replacing it with a known working unit, been fine ever since  ::)

Yup, mine does that, I just keep hitting the switch until it closes.  :-\

I've still got my old motor that played up.... what does the magnet do to the disc then??? Curious...

there is a line's in the ring that will not be magnetised, the reader on the board reads the gap so it knows were it is, when the magnet loses it magnetism its harder for the reader to pick up. putting a magnet on it re-magnetising. work on all have done.

Had the same problem with mine when i had a new battery fitted, came onto the forum and was told to reset it by pushing up on the switch and keeping pushed for around 30 seconds. Have to say it worked and have done it again since then when had the battery of to weld a crack across the manifold, as i say worked for me.  :y

Thanks for the helpful comments to far. I'm going to have a bit of a play with this over the weekend and go through the switch clean procedure. I'm intrigued by the 'magnet' tip ... got to be worth a go! And if all else fails I've already been offered a replacement motor.

Cheers guys :y Will let you know how it goes...

Ok, all done and can't believe how simple this was in the end ::)

Nothing electrical about this problem except that the sunroof was meeting some extra resistance when closing which was activating the safety reverse mechanism.  This was down to the small wind deflector at the front of the opening, which is supposed to close down as the glass approaches it thanks to the roof bearing down on two arms either side of the opening.

In my case the wind deflector was not closing down quickly enough to avoid fouling the front of the roof and activating the safety. Solution? adjust the mounting points for the two arms (underneath the screw head the hole is elongated to allow adjustment), and reset the arms as far back as they will go. Now when the roof closes the new adjustment means that the deflector deploys to a shallower angle which doesn't catch the roof. Simples! :y

Thanks to those chaps who offered advice and those who offered nice cheap replacement motors, but for now I'm very happy!
