Cigarette lighter sockets
« on: 19 October 2011, 11:11:32 »

Hiya fella, don't know if its just my car but this is really winding me up. If i use the cigarette sockets (front or back) for anything other than a fag lighter - Nokia charger, TomTom, kids DVD player, 3 way socket adapter etc.... then they all will not sit securely in the socket. I have to splay the side pins to get them to sit in, then im constantly having to wiggle the buggers to regain power - small bumps just seem to knock them loose. Kids are really impressed halfway through a film. Any advice much appreciated  :y

You might find the little metal tangs inside both the sockets have stretched apart and are not making a good contact :-[

Disconnect battery or pull fuse from that circuit and have a pull on the inside of the socket to see if you can make the plug hold tighter :y

Mine does the complete reverse and will not allow the fag lighter long enough to hold in place so doesn,t get hot :obut no big deal as my car is strictly a "no smoking zone " anyway ;D ;D ;D

Other option would be to hard wire another set of adaptor sockets to both the front and back then you can conceal the plugs better and they won,t get kicked by little feet etc :y
