Q for the nerds among us
« on: 26 October 2011, 09:33:34 »

The boredom of sitting (or rather not being able to sit) on my arse means I have to find other things to occupy my somewhat autistic brain to avoid mental meltdown.
After ripping my Galaxy S2 apart (software wise) and making it work the way it should have done from day one, the latest "toy" I want to try is a proggy called >Torque<[url].

To be able to play with this I need a Bluetooth OBD adaptor.
A decent one is around the £60 mark, but I am loathe to waste money (even if £60 is sod all these days) if the software isn't going to do what it's supposed to.

So my question is this....

Do any of my fellow electronic geeks have such a device I can borrow to try the software out?

I have a wired USB OBDII ELM327 based adaptor you'd be welcome to have a play with. I suspect the software just expects to see a virtual COM port provided by the lower level device drivers, so if the software supports an ELM327 interface it should work, albeit with the inconvenience of a few trailing wires...

Ahh. :-[ It's for android, hence the bluetooth requirement? I'll get my coat. :-X

Would the dongle not need to be specific to the cars diagnostic port? Or is there a diy way around that?

they use a standard bluetooth adaptor - £5 or £10 off ebay, then talk to your phone.

almost fits with the fuse board cover as well iirc.
