Hi all
First thank you for all your help on this matter it truly helped
Garage man checked the sensor in as much moving lever when he shoved the lever up it rose further but would not come down when he pulled lever down. He then took off pipe and there was loads of pressure and suspension dropped to 670 height . the pump then started back and pumped it only slightly but  did not drop anymore. He seems to think that it is this sensor that is causing the bother so as said soon as i get a replacement he will fit it if that does not work  he will have to look further. he charged me a fiver so couldnt complain there.

Thanks again

Doesn't sound like the sensor to me. It sounds like the valve attached to the pump, that's supposed to release the air to lower the suspension.

Exact same symptoms as mine.

My money is on the pump as well not releasing the air....get another from a breaker and replace it yourself . :y Simple unbolt the old one and swop over .

In the drivers side front wheel arch, in front of the plastic wheel arch liner.

I haven't taken mine out (yet.........) but I cannot see that taking the headlight out would give any benefit at all.

Get the front wheels up on ramps and you should be able to get good access from below the car.

Just a update on the pump
I found that a pipe was split on the pump i put on a new piece but it made no difference it looked like it had been sucking crud into the pump, However with the help of my grandson we changed the pump over for a breaker one Bots were a bit tricky but done. It is now working ok and level is 680 but they were KYB springs wether i change to genuine SL springs im giving it thought. 680 dont seem too bad it was 740
One again thank you all for your excellent advice
special thanks to Albs

Glad to hear its sorted  :y

When I replaced my pump a while ago I also fitted new pipe work onto the pump as it had seen better days  ;D....used fuel hose which was an exact fit and also the long breather section.

Unsure of the way pump releases air  :D but my money was on it not doing it either properly or at all hence why the rear just kept getting pushed higher.

The pump will run or should run on every start, it's easily audible. It pumps up then releases to the sensor hight every time. So if the pump can't release air it just keeps pumping up gradually with each start. Pumping up and releasing air can be heard, hence the guide on playing with the sensor to test.

Glad your sorted.  :y

Hi All
Just as an aside to the Self  Leveling Pump
It is fitted and all seems okl but
On initial turn of the key it takes 30 sec before the pump starts and runs for about 4 to 5 secs
I got this pump from steves Parts at Heathrow it was very clean and looked ok and indeed is working ok.

The one that came off used to start to run within 20 secs and did pump up ok but would not allow it to drop so it was no good really
The question im asking is 30 sec the time it takes as it seems a long time to me or ios this the norm.

It does seem to work ok i put the lawn mower in the boot with some gardening tools and it immediatly pumped up slightly, when i took them out with engine still running it came on again and went to correct height.
it just the 30 second delay at start i was worried about have i got a duff pump

TIA

No, that's normal. It varies. Both on an individual car, and from car to car. I don't think it's a timed process as mine used to start almost immediately, or as I was driving up the road, had two Elites now, 52plate and an 03.

Sounds like it ok to me.  :y
