What's inside the exhaust centre sections?
« on: 08 November 2011, 09:16:28 »

On the single walled, V6 GM Centre exhaust sections, what's inside them?

Are they hollow - or is there any wadding/padding (or anything that could block) inside the centre sections?

Just wondering if my (one) good looking one on the car is worth salvaging, or, if the likelyhood it's blocked, the bin..

Purely as a guess James I'd say it would be very similar to a back box - couple of plates but maybe with no wadding being only single skin  :-\  Just a guess tho fella.

I broke open an old oe mid section to see. Just grabbed the pipe and levered it off so to speak, it's was week and rusty. Couldn't get right into the centre of the box, but what was visible through the hole was nothing but baffle plates. So I assumed no wadding, unless it's deeper in?

Regardless though, change both IMO. Unless you intend to sell it...  ;)

Cheers, Chris. The used GM exhaust from Rob is a very good one - and is basically a temporary thing to A) pass the MOT, and B) tide me over until stainless time, next year :)

Strangely, no plans to part with my MV6. I've had it since last winter - it's the longest I've owned an Omega ;D
