Hi im going to change my thermostat the car is a 3.2 mv6 03 i phoned the car parts place up and they asked if the stats on its own or is it joined to the housing which one do i need thanks Andy

The (genuine) thermostat and housing come as a complete assembly. I would advise replacing the whole assembly as the stat housing can get pitted by corrosion and may not seal well afterwards. in addition, you will need to replace the housing-to-block seal and the two housing-to-transfer pipe seals.

As another complication, some housings have a thinner flange than others, and these require a different length mounting bolt (so you might need to replace or cut these to length) and the seal is also different!

I ordered mine through user AndyC on here. He was able to supply a selection of bits to cover all options so that I didn't end up getting stuck. That might be the best option.
