An absolute insurance cock up!!!
« on: 14 December 2011, 10:25:51 »

These bunch of complete incompetent pricks trying to sort my BMW out have completely cocked up 100%. Basically when I reported the claim to my broker, they put me through to aviva, anyway when talking to Aviva, they said you're not insured by us, it's with tradex. Anyway tradex then started dealing with things. I then got my insurance paperwork through which was from Aviva, not tradex.

Anyway I got a courtesy car from the company tradex had provided, and they collected my car. So it's been at the repairers for about a week and I hear from tradex yesterday and they said right, we've got the quote, but I'm sorry you're not insured with us. So I hear from tradex again and they said, what's happened is Aviva have just gone on the registration number, basically what's happend is, where it was an ex fleet car and I've only just bought it, it's still registered to a lease company, where they've gone on the reg. number it's still on fleet insurance with tradex from the company.

Now I speak to Aviva this morning, they said right, we'll collect the car and take it to one of our approved repairers. So I say ok, do as you have to do. Anyway I then speak to the garage it's at, at the minute, and they said, what's going on? I told them what's happened and they're now having an argument with Aviva. So I then hear again from Aviva and they said, they won't release the car until all recovery and storage costs are paid. Now Aviva then said to me, well you'll have to pay the bill as we were nothing to do with it. Aviva were the ones who told me I'm not insured with them and it's tradex. So I get on the phone to tradex an they're saying, well you can leave it where it is or if they pick it up, you pay the costs. Now I never instructed noone to pickup my car, tradex arranged it all and they then say I'm not insured with them.

So I'm stuck now, I need to contact Aviva again. This is an absolute cock up through no fault of my own. All I want is the car fixed!!! So it's now back on the phone to Aviva.

Mention that you're going to call the Financial Ombudsman about it.  That should get it moving in the right direction.  Even though Tradex aren't your insurers it is their responsibility as they picked it up and moved it and should pay the release fee.

It's their cockup for not checking properly, so they should pay  ;)

It's borderline whether it's repaired or not, however tradex were just about to authorise repair, and then they said, "oh you're not actually insured by us". Still on the phone now, spoke to a manager at Aviva and she said, "they sound like a back street garage, we need to get the car out of there to avoid more costs, however as none of it is your fault, we're trying to figure out who will pay the bill". So I'm getting passed here, there and everywhere at the minute.

I mentioned the insurance ombudsman, which has sorted of kicked them into first gear, I'm now on hold to my broker, to see what they have to say about it. God knows what my phone bill will be this month.

Use your law rights Del, and I hope in the end your only problem will be phone bills..

Right it's now staying where it is, only thing is they need to get their own assessor out now which'll be Monday. I've spoken to who it's already with as well, and he seems fine, he's already got the parts on order, being a Roof, screen, bonnet, grill, latches, struts etc. He also said, as it was tradex who were valuing the car and had authorised repair already, he's 95% sure it'll be repaired. As tradex go on trade values, and Aviva will value it higher.  So what's been a pain in the arse of a day, has turned out alright really.

Aviva done you wrong in the past?

Never went in the end unfortunately, went to collect a 2006 M5, which has a clutch problem rather annoyingly. I am looking at going up there ASAP though, I take it the next police one is in January now?

Good! Now i dont mean that nastily, but any cock up by insurer means you have an ombudsman claim, and boy has somebody cocked up here. I don't buy the cock and bull re not knowing who's on risk, that's crap.
Keep a note of time spent, phone bills and anything else you can think of, then when you have the insurers final word on compensation, refuse it and contact the ombudsman. It will take time but there will be money owed to you.

If we don't log these complaints they get away with shafting us all again and again.

Best of luck Del

Ps, avoid approved repairers, they are scum IMO, total stitch up, and that's an opinion formed long before the Range rover drove into me/mine.

Thanks for that Chris, much appreciated :). The garage it's at wasn't one of their approved repairers, however he is good, does Maserati & Ferrari Paintwork apparently. He seems like a nice bloke to be honest. However the insurance will be dealt with by the ombudsman.

 ;)
Those are the very reasons I spit on Insurance Brokers. I have never, evr had a decent level of service from any of them I have used until I decided that talking to the 'main man' would cut out the idiots who mis-direct, mis-advise or just fob you off. Its always better to deal with the insurance company direct or better still if its available, the insurance underwriting company. At least that way no leech with its eye on your money and little else cannot put a spanner in the works when things go wrong. :y

Was more of an issue with their 'approved repairer, but they weren't exactly helpful until I started yelling at people >:(

Probably doesn't help that I don't like having things done to my cars that I can't see/watch :-\

Car all sorted in the end, but confirmed that gut instinct was right, (shame it's not so good with the opposite sex :-X). Hoping that the rest of the fiasco will be sorted before Christmas. No one ever accused me of being pessamistic... ::)
