 Well pleased with my home insurance phone call to lloyds tsb this morning,my premium was increasing by £80 for next year,but after my haggling with their retention dept it's now £15 cheaper than this year.

Dont have contents insurance,never had it in the last 30 odd years. Havent had buildings insurance since I stopped having a mortage around 12 years ago. Dont believe in insurance.It will most likely be money paid out for nothing. I only have car insurance because the law requires it.

Yes, that's not entirely uncommon son - especially when it comes time to make a claim, many people seem to have to jump through hoops to get money from the insurers.

If you have the money sitting in an account to replace all your possessions and rebuild your house should the worst happen, I can see your point..

I am the most risk averse person you'll ever meet, so I'm insured up to the eyeballs..

My parents lost their house and contents to a fire about 25 years ago,they had no insurance,had to sell the shell for a pittance,rehomed in a council flat.They never recovered from it.
Lesson learned,less than a fiver a week,peace of mind it's worth it.

i got docunent cover, just incase, cover loss from fire,water damage, and theft. and enthing els that may come up. they do the work for you.

Up until two weeks ago that statement would have applied to us, then the old lady managed to drop her phone down the toilet (christ knows how, but she did).
If it wasn't for the contents cover, I would have been looking at £500 to replace her handset.....instead it cost me one phone call and the replacement (brand new in the box) was in her hands 3 days later.

Yes I know I am still technically "out of pocket" when weighing up what we have paid in premiums over the years, but I'd rather pay £160 a year and know we are covered for just about anything rather than have to find £50,000 odd if our house was to go "total loss".
