3.0 v6 oil leak

hi guys im hoping someone can help,i got the oil lack display come up on my dash so i checked oil put a drop in then after a few miles i could smell burning oil i stopped the car and saw smoke coming from under the bonnet.i popped the bonnet and saw oil dropping onto the exhaust heat sheilds,it was leaking from both rocker covers from what i could see,now ive asked on a vauxhall forum and ive been told i need to replace my rocker covers with metal ones and obviously new gaskets.has anyone else had this problem and is it an exspensive fix cuz it sounds it.

Don't replace them with metal ones, that just transfers the problem to the crank seal!

You need a set of GM not pattern cam cover gaskets, give Andy C on the forum a bell, he is a parts manager at a Vx dealer. Looking at £80 all in for the parts. He will make sure you have all the bits  :y

They leak because:-

  • Gaskets have hardened and
    • breathers get blocked with crud and
      • someone has overtightened them to try to stop the leak


      which then causes them to leak more.

      As said, remove covers, replace gaskets with gen VX ones from a GM dealer (Andyc is recommended on here) by following guides and clean the breathers.

When you replace the gaskets make sure you clean out the breather system there is an exellent guide on the site
