The injector pump is what I am referring to

Its a mechanical pump but has bosch DDE digital diesel electronics management with fly by wire throttle

Loosened an injector pipe and did the test with someone in the car. fuel spurting quite happily.

Compression test needed to rule this out

diesel engines need a good compression to start in cold weather the warmer the weather the easier it is to start

hense the term compression ignition

Very true, but the BMW engine has a fairly good reputation as being bullet proof, and would have had to suffer some severe distress to lose compression. Is this a high mileage car? Has it been well maintained? Previous issues of this type reported on OOF have usually been the result of poor fuel supply, be it lift pump or injector pump. :y

Cleaned up some engine muck, opened fuel line and tested - ok
Connected up to my car by jump leads then tried to start it. eventually it started. ???
this car is doing my noodle in. if there was a major problem surely it wouldn't start whatever?

now waiting for the morning to test again.

Thanks for all your help in the past on this issue.

After taking the inlet off and all other parts i found various faults and glow plugs.

The car is now 100% and back where it should be - on the road.
