engine overheating / air con problem
« on: 18 January 2012, 16:36:43 »

my car takes a long time to reach operating temp, then when i idle say in slow traffic, it rises to overheat. however if i get it in time and turn on air con, engine temp falls dramatically. this also happens if not over-heating but i want air con on so i have to drive in overcoat.

Welcome to the forum

Slow to get to temp is normally a sign that your thermostat is stuck (partially) open, but if it's over heating when idling I'd suggest that the temperature switch at the top of the passenger side of the radiator isn't working as it should. When you turn your a/c on, it's telling the fan(s) in front of your rad to run at half speed.
