Oil
« on: 27 January 2012, 21:08:01 »

My car is ex old bill and its got 150,000 miles on it . Right what i want to know is my friend has got a few spare 5 litre cans of oil going cheap the thing is its 10-40 diesel oil part sin. Now i wanted a slightly thicker oil as i can just start to hear the tappets there not bad just wanted to try and make them a bit quieter. Would diesel oil do any harm.

The difference is probably more at the marketing level than anything else so it should be fine. Might find it's got a more aggressive package of detergents which will have a flushing effect, so if oil changes have been neglected in the past a 1k change would be prudent to flush out the crud.

ide only use that oil if states on bottle compatable for petrol or diesel engines... but never a mineral based oil always semi or fully...

so what spec oil is standard for a 3.0 mv6??

my engine is brand new only done 20k but uses 1ltr a week if driven hard.. 2 weeks in & around town

ive been topping it up with 10w40 semi & 5w30fully synth petrol oil

but was going to do full oil change & get a 5ltr for toppin up what would u guys recomend??

& if its not dropping oil or smoking where is it going?? water clean & original oil is dark brown...
