Cheers all. Thanks to Ralf for working with me to get the car here; much appreciated  :y

Yep, jump started it today. Now obviously I'm no expert but I have watched vids of cars with cylinders out and it sounds the same.

Bit of smoke from back of the plenum but I suspect that's old oil from CC gasket (thanks, Albs  :y)

I am going to get the scuttle off and get to the back of the engine Saturday (and Sunday if it takes that long).

I have read the dis pack removal guide and understand it's numbered for ease of reference. Will I need to actually remove this to swap leads about if they're in the wrong place or will there be enough room to do it with dis pack still attached? Guide suggests taking it off (no problem for me as I have a weekend absence pass from SWMBO  ;D)

I understand the SP banks are...

             Windscreen

5                                       6

3                                       4

1                                       2

              Radiator

........so why on Earth (if I've got this right) does the diss pack go...

5                                       4

3                                       6

1                                       2

LOL!

Ok that brings me on to my next Q  ::)

Are the leads themselves numbered? So I can rule out wrong leads in wrong SP wells?

Some have numbered "rings" on them, but if you`re removing plenum, shine a torch onto dis and you`ll see the plug numbers stamped on it

If numbered rings fitted they`ll be at the end of the lead just where it enters the actual cap
