odd rumbling turning left with throttle...
« on: 26 February 2012, 22:06:15 »

hello, i've checked the front drivers side wheel bearing for play as thats what it sounds like
i get a wheel bearing noise when turning left with medium throttle/when accelerating into a bend, dont think i get it as much when off the throttle if at all

otherwise what could it be? i thought it could possibly be to do with the brake disc/caliper carrier catching the disc or something?

thanks
alex

p.s its had new wishbones and tierods on the front and still making the noise

Wheel bearings don't always fail with play. Might need to remove the wheel and disc to feel any notchy ness in the races that can't be fealt with the weight of the wheel and disc in place.

Could it be the other side?

Jack up that wheel, feel & listen for play when rocking at 3 & 6 'o' clock, then 6 & 12. Also spin the wheel if you think it's something catching.
edit - or listen to Chris, he types faster than me too.

thats the way i did it, felt at 12 and 6 and at 9 and 3 and no play in the bearing, i could see play in the bottom balljoint so did the wishbone

is it possible it could be the rear one? with it being under power and load that side up?
thanks
alex

p.s i'll have to take the disc off and feel the hub rotating it

Yep, could easily be rear... In fact, more likely if it gets worse when on the power as that would reduce weight at the front and increase at the rear ;)
