cam belt

today i started changing the cam belt on my omega 3lt yr 2000. I have a gates kit and a set of crank and cam spocket locking tools. HOWEVER, i cannot get the cam belt around the right hand
cam sprockets, its too tight, It goes on ok when the mark on the cam belt at the bottom under the crank shaft is one tooth out. the others line up ok.
I had this trouble about three yrs ago and i'm b****** if i can remember what i did to fix it.
has anyone got any ideas on where i am going wrong. :'(

If you are doing it yourself mate the dvd from the Forum Shop is a great help :y

Reading what you have put sounds to me asthough you have put it on the wrong way.

I did have a dvd from oof shop but seems to have gon walkies don't have time to order another now.
I cant see what i've done wrong. from lining up the marks on the crank shaft i fed it up the right hand side facing the front of the engine the marks on the left side line up, the ones on the right obviously dont mean much because they are a mile out. the camshafts are locked with the tools and the crank is locked and the belt wedged using sealy tools. if i move the belt one tooth out on the crank it fits ok. can't make out what is going on.

I am passing Swindon on Sunday on my way to Hampshire.

If you've already done the hard work of stripping everything out of the way, I'd be happy to pop in for half hour and do the actual belt fit / setup for you :y

If you've got the cams and crank locked with the tools, just ignore any marks in the belt, and time it using the tools.

Just ensure that it still aligns after turning the engine thorugh at least 2 full turns. but then you'd do that however you timed it, wouldn't you?

Done it!! I found that after turning it over a couple of times the left camsprocket was one tooth out . After putting it right the cambelt went on ok. Everything now lines up ok after two lots of two turnes.

Double line goes on the crank and align belt making sure the arrows are in the right direction. Align all marks on cambelt to the cams and then adjust timing on cams 3 and 4 first with right hand side adjuster. Then cams 1 and 2 with middle adjuster and then tension the belt is what ive always been taught.
