I would add, ALL things are relative.
Compare my omega, which possibly has one of the firmest set ups available with polly fronts and irmscher springs and b4 shocks all round, with most other cars. I've not driven every model ever made, far from it, but those I have driven, every single one has a much firmer/tighter chassis than the omegas of today.
I get the impression they where built for comfort from the factory? Nout wrong with that, but add in degradation over time, and the omega turns into a car shaped jelly much quicker than most cars.
What some might refer to as comfort, others might describe as a chassis completely detached from the suspension via bushes that are soft at best from new, and when old loose all controle of straight line stability.
Each to their own and all that, but I find a wandering chassis deeply unpleasant, and soft suspension which I can cope with really doesn't help progress, if progress is what's wanted.
Obviously there's a balance to be had between comfort and handling. But tbh I see NO DOWNSIDE WHAT SO EVER with polly so far. Ignorance is not bliss for me, being honest.
