I've done a speed awareness course
Had just completed holiday journey to North Wales
And just sited up caravan
Was driveing down to supermarket to stock up with food
Swmbo said there was a camera van parked  on the grass verge
Love letter in letterbox waiting for my return 3 weeks later
36 mph in a 30 zone was a real sickener
I have clean licence going back 50+yrs
Of course I now still have
So considered the course to be a lucky break
Although on the plus side I certainly did learn some very good points
Brought home to me how much my driveing took for granted and had become a habit!!

ACPO guidelines for a speed awareness course

 minimum 10 % + 2mph

maximum is 10 % + 9 mph

They only appear to be as a "guide" though, I got caught by a speed gun on my bike. Just overtook car that pulled out from a side road.

48mph in a 30mph zone, but still got a course & no points :y

I would like to say I don't condone speeding and he has never seen me speeding, I am no angel and of course have drifted above speed limits at time.
There is a vast difference between exceeding the posted limit and driving at an excessive speed, no need to apologise at all until the full facts are known.
Even if your boy was taking the piss (and I'm sure we have all done that at that age), there is still no need for an apology from you because it wasn't down to you to start with.

Sounds to me like you are the sort of person who could fall in to a barrel of cocks and still come out of it sucking on a tit, you were incredibly lucky for that  :y

Im actually normally very unlucky.Ive had so much bad luck in life it would make most people cry if I told them the half of it. ;D
I definitely had some good luck that night though. Copper bollocked break out of me,ranted about the fact it took his Volvo turbo estate 3.4 miles to catch up with me,told me I would certainly get a long ban, blah blah blah...................then he announced that he was a biker himself and knew how easy it is to get carried away etc, didnt want to lose me my job (which loss of licence would have done) and appreciated the fact that I had said it was my own fault so I had to take the punsihment on the chin.
Then asked me if I would be haapy to accept 3 points & £60,if he booked me for doing 95mph. I was more than happy, and tbh havent driven/ridden at licence losing speeds since. That was April 09.

There are still some decent coppers out there who are happy to think for themselves based on what they have seen, but they are a dying breed and it will be a sad day indeed when they go.

Way back in 1984 I was "chased" (completely unaware) by a motorway traffic patrol in an SD1 Rover ( I had a brand spanking Kawasaki GPz 1100 Injection) for "the last 12miles" and he was glad I stopped at the services because his engine was pretty much cooked by the time he caught up with us  ;D
He could have had a field day with me if he wanted to, but after the obligotory bollocking (and some serious arse kissing on my part) he gave me the option of being reported (no such thing as instant ticket back then) for 98mph or racing on the highway......I'm sure you can guess which one I opted for  ;)

My m8 has just doen one...... ;D
Depending on how long the paperworking shufflers take, up to 6 weeks in some areas, you will get the papers as appropriate and they will contain the charges, an option to pay the fixed penalty, an offer to attend court and the offer to attend a course which will cost you £90.00 but wil award you no points or fine.
The course takes half a day and is totally freekin boring, boring, boring and teaches you nothing you do not already know (or should).
Bonus is that you get a free copy of the highway code!
Remember that you only get the offer of the course each 3 years so the next time, if there is one, you will be fined and given points.

Mate is still going on about the most boring day of his life too.............. ::)
dont that never been so bored in my life  >:( >:(

I've got the course in a week or so's time

In the period between killing my old mig, and collecting the new one (about a week), I got done twice, on the same stretch of road, at the same time of night, on consecutive days, by average speed cameras. I've done the journey at the same time of night every friday & saturday night for the past 4 years, cameras have been in there for about 2 years.

First night I was driving a focus, 2nd night a renault traffic. Made me realise how much I rely on cruise control for average speed cameras. :-[

Apart from being rather annoyed at myself, it just goes to show what happens in an unfamiliar vehicle.  >:(

Got 3 points for one offence, and the course for the other

Still, £95 is a lot better than getting to 9 points- I already have 3 from about 2 years ago......
TIP- don't use satnav on a phone unless it's in a cradle >:( >:( >:(
