**** cropped lots of stuff ****

I only have 2/5 of total lung capacity, :( I could not possibly blow for the length of time needed for a reading, also the reading would be wrong as it would be based on full lung capacity.
Got my HGV and PSV back, how you doing? :)

The roadside reader is looking for deep lung air.  I have had instances where miners with chronic emphysema and severely restricted lung capacity still manage.  The machine realises that what its getting is all its getting!

My LGV and PCV got pulled by DVLA last week due to failing their tests, unfortunately, but thanks for asking...  :y

I have quite good lungs, I can get high peak flow rate ect but I struggle with the tester.

Had a test 4 or 5 times. Worst was a you have been drinking a little light came on (I had drunk a little). But you get checked routinly after an accident.

Last nightime stop it was very wet and I had trouble getting the power down on the Sunbeam in town. Kept spinning at traffic lights, so was checked. I explained about tuned engine and  greasy roads and he was OK

Smuggling - my only case is the following.

Went by ferry to Wexford, terminal literally about 10 miles from Rosslaire, then diverted to Dublin, 100 miles or more north.

Big signs no dairy products, at the terminal - my cheese sandwiches were sneaked in!!!!

In mitigation M`Lud; the defendant`s contraband snack had been prepared using margarine not butter.....however the dairy content of the saturated cheese-curd filling was determind to be above the legal limit! ;D

Quite a stressful drive that.

I once got breathalised by a trafic team on new years eve when I was about 19.

"asked if I had been drinking"

Of course I replied.

"how many have you had Sir"

8 or maybe 10 pints I replied.

"would you mind blowing into our bag sonny"

No Dad, not a problem with a big smile on my face, would you like me to get out of the car 1st I asked.

"No , that wont be neccesary"

few minutes pased, we wen through the deep breath thing and blow into the bag slowly etc.....

"Right Sir, (Reading me my rights) Having had in excess of 8 pints " ......

"er pete, 2 ticks"

"excuse me Sir"

"it's negative"

"Sir, May I ask what have you been drinking tonight"

Coke and lemononade I replied.

"OMG" Laughing his bootds off

"Cant fault you Sir, with it being New Tears Eve and all, we cant be too carefull"

"Off you go and drive carefully"

Wishing them a Happy New Year I did so

But what made me mad was the fact that they both smelt off whiskey and the 2nd officer was gently swaying

They were on duty and driving a TRAFFIC CAR????

I've seen someone done for wasting police time for exactly this!! - be careful!!!

To comment on a few of the "I thought it was a max, not a min" comments - IMO driving at 25% below the limit on an open road is potentially just as dangerous as any other possible speed related aspect.

I once got pulled over for "accelerating too quickly"

the officer didn't have quotable figures when I asked him how quickly I should have been accelerating. (this was from traffic lights on a dual carriageway section of the A52 near nottingham..at no point did I go over 65mph)

It`s interesting to observe that probably most normal citizen`s likely experience of 'our' Police forces will be as a motorist; either though licensing and 'revenue' matters or as a 'moving-traffic' offender.

Here in the 'wilds' of rural Wales (Where a well-known Dr. of Zoology is Chief Const.); I note that I`m only aware of a 'Police presence' as scarce traffic-patrols on the trunk roads, at RTC`s and when I visit distant towns.

In the instances where I have had dealings with the local-Police (non-vehicular matters) I have found them to be reluctant/disinterested and unhelpful....and in one conversation with a P.C (half my age); offensively-rude!  :o

I hasten to add, that these are my personal (local) experiences; certainly not a reflection on all Police officers....and should not be received as such!

There has always been a 'them and us' relationship `twixt the public and those enforcement officers that serve them; but, there seems to have been a marked change for the worse here in this past decade, like myself, I know of many whose first call at time of need (other than an accident/999 matter) would not be to the police for fear of it leading to other 'consequences'....

It is a sad state of affairs, but I see the Police here either as a containment-force for the populus-towns elsewhere in this region where the crime rate is high or as a regional road-policing service......hardly the noble Protect and Serve attitude that I felt from American law-enforcement officers during my 20 years+ living in the USA.

I am honest, law abiding and have high moral priciples; but still, the Police do frighten me!

.........perhaps now, I need to duck to avoid a hail of disagreement?  :-?

Dont be frightened of the police cause if they where that intimidating they would take themselves into the rough parts of liverpool just over the water from me, instead they choose to pray upon the innocent drivers trying to squeeze every last penny they can out of us.

This subject gets my blood boiling beyond belief when you keep hearing stories and experiencing matters yourself where there is not enough police around to deal with things yet they can afford to have 20 officers sitting at a roadside pulling people in because a letter on there number plate is 2mm to close, its a joke!!!!

I recently was pulled over by one of these random checks which turned out to be not so random, at the time i was driving an impreza which i no longer have now due to the fact of the amount of bull sh*t excuses i used to get to pull me over. The officer who pulled me over on this day started to question me about the car my address etc etc with the most arrogant of attitudes like i was something he would wipe of the bottom of his shoe!!! Anyway after learning to keep calm and not argue with officers because every time i got pulled in that car i was treated like a scum bag when i am far from it.

On this day though i couldnt control my mouth as the officer went on his radio and said i quote word for word " anything decent just pull it in " to which i said what kind of an operation are you running here to which he denied he had said any such thing. In the end i just got back in my car and drove off before they would of took me lol.

I have a close friend who is in the force who i spoke to about this matter and he just said if i have no witnesess i havnt got any case against the attitude of the officer or the way in which he was conducting these random stops. He just said it all depends on the officer in charge as half of the people he works with are genuine nice people and the other half are just power hungry ar*es unfortunatly.

By the way the cars that where at the roadside when i was pulled over where, 07plate range rover, 06plate merc sl55 amg, 5 series bmw, x5 bmw how very random that sounds hey!!!!!!!

the random checkpoints around my area seem to do the trick in the proper manner, i come to this conclusion purely because i expect to get pulled over but never do!!

Only ever been breathalised once in 22 years of driving and that was after an accident 5 years ago which was my fault so can't complain really. I hadn't had a drink and the traffic cop said he could tell that, but that he had to test me as a matter of routine. Still got £200 fine and 6 points though :(

When i was taught to drive, i was told to drive exactly on the limit, at all times, unless it was wet.

 :o

Sounds like you weren't taught to drive, but to pass the test.

I've been pulled over 4 times. Once for a breath test in the UK (was followed out of a pub car park; fair enough. Once for a breath test in France during the Le Mans 24h; certainly fair enough given the number of p!ss heads around there. Once in the UK just to check the car was mine; fair enough, I thought. I was in the Westfield and I'd damn well have wanted it to be pulled over if it had been nicked. The most bizarre one was in South Africa when I was simply asked if I had any pork in the car. I had actually just finished eating a ham sandwich but they didn't see the funny side of that.

I think provided your guilt / innocence is established with the minimum of inconvenience it's not a problem.

Kevin

thats the trouble nowadays kevin people arnt taught to drive just to pass a test !! thats why the roads are full of numptys that carnt drive !! :( :(

I have no time for Drunk drivers or Job's worth people, they are a total waste of Space and Time and on the subject of Driving tests, my Driving instructor told me when I passed my test that "This was the moment that I started to learn to Drive"  8-)
